About Captain Mike Warren:

Captain Mike moved to the Outer Banks in the late 70's. Currently he has fished almost 30 consecutive years in Hatteras. We guarantee that we will work our hardest to make your day of fishing a day to remember.

About Hatteras Island:

Picture
Hatteras Island extends 60 miles into the Atlantic Ocean with the Gulf Stream and the Labrador currents constantly shaping and reshaping the barrier island. The interaction between these two gigantic "rivers" of water has formed the Diamond Shoals and the Graveyard of the Atlantic. They have also created one of the most varied and abundant game fishing areas in the world. Blue and white marlin, sailfish, giant bluefin, yellowfin and blackfin tuna, mahi mahi (dolphin fish), wahoo, king mackerel, cobia, striped bass (rockfish) and many more species inhabit these waters.

What to Expect:

January, February and March
Weather can be a factor but there are still lots of fishable days. The main target is the Giant Bluefin Tuna. Anglers travel from all over the county to experience the thrill of these magnificent fighters. We see a migration of  Bluefins ranging from 75 to 550 pounds, often they are found around the wrecks, the Rock Pile and the Rocks. It is quite an experience to see Bluefins feeding in a ball of bait fish after they have circled them in. Be sure and bring a camera in case we catch some "thrash & splash"
.
Closer to the beach, we catch King Mackerel. Often, near the shoals we catch Rockfish (Stripers) along with Red Drum. Yellowfin Tuna are also in the area typically in the 30lb range and Blackfin Tuna may be mixed in.

April
In April, Yellowfin Tuna are the main catch. These are great fighting fish who school together so multiple hookups are a great possibility. It is not unusual to hook one on every line, quickly catching a limit of fish!  For you sushi lovers this is treat.

May
Marlin and dolphin begin to show up in May as the water temperatures start to rise. The fishing in May largely depends upon the water temps. If the temperatures stay cool the yellowfins stay around longer but when the temps begin to rise the Marlins and Dolphin begin to appear. The first wave of Dolphin usually have nice size to them so don't miss out on a great fight.

June-July
June and July are big months for Dolphin, Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, and Yellowfin Tuna. This is the time when you can "bail" some dolphin. The fishing gets fast and furious when a school hits you and you have fish on every line and more begging to be caught! Limits of dolphin (60/charter) are easy to come by. Billfish are always a great sight to see and we support the release/no kill program. Captain Mike will be happy to sign your release flag as a souvenir of your day.

August
This is the time of year when the weather is usually the most settled and offers a good chance to get a really pretty day for your fishing.  Still a great mix of fish with Dolphin, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and the always popular Billfish.

September-October
As the weather starts to cool a bit, the fishing starts to heat up, continued fishing for Dolphin, Wahoo, Tunas and Billfish with an early shot at some King Mackerel with live bait.

October, November, December
Hatteras in the fall means Excellent Fishing.  We usually get a pretty good fall tuna bite of Yellowfins and BlackFins.  Live Bait King Mackerel action at its finest, and typically good Giant Bluefin in December!  Don't forget Rockfish and Red Drum possibilities.
